There is a lot of these guys around this late Winter. They are called Woolly Bears and they are the larva of the Isabella Tiger Moth. As soon as the temperature gets above freezing they start to move.

This is me (Barry Mouzar) on the sundeck - it was warm enough to sit out and have a cup of tea. The Woolly Bears probably tell one another that when the temperature gets above freezing - the humans start to move.

The sea was relatively calm today but there was very little duck activity. I've been waiting to get a picture of the pair of Mergansers, but they didn't show this afternoon.
